Read on to know everything that you wanted to know about Saqr Park.

The meaning of the word “saqr” in Arabic, is “falcon.” Falconry has been a popular sporting activity in the emirates for a very long time. Today, besides being an item of entertainment, falconry also takes into account things like conserving nature & fauna, preserving a rich cultural heritage, and also promoting inter and intra-community social engagement.

And this is what the Saqr Park – the largest public park of Ras Al Khaimah – celebrates; the relationship between the human & avian species that is several millennia old. People can make the lives of birds more fulfilling here, as also connect up with each other. This park is meant for every community – a reflection of the cultural diversity & inclusiveness of Ras Al Khaimah. Round the year, families & groups of friends head to the park to spend some quality time in the lap of nature.

History of Saqr Park

The park, which was initiated by His Highness Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the ruler of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah from 1948 to 2010, was inaugurated in 1991. Its creation aimed to provide a natural sanctuary in the area.  The park is a realization of his dreams of peaceful co-existence of humans & avians and also inter-community bonhomie.

Fire up the grill for some sizzling delights as the others in the group laze around & the kids have a wonderful time playing. Those cards and board games would come in handy for making your picnic an even more enjoyable affair! The kids can also make use of the long trails in the park by cycling along them.
